Temporarily on hold

We're not running trips to Point Dume right now.

Beach lot and road closed for erosion since August 2026. Until access reopens, here are crags we're guiding now.

Top-roping on a sea cliff above the sand. On hold while the beach access is closed.

About Point Dume

Point Dume's volcanic headland drops straight onto the sand at the west end of Westward Beach, and its low-angle west face has a handful of friendly top-ropes from 5.6 to 5.8. When it's open, climbing to the sound of the surf is about as Malibu as it gets.

Since August 2026 the Point Dume beach parking lot and Westward Beach Road past the gate have been closed for erosion repairs with no reopening date. Until there's practical, legal access to the base again, we're not running trips here. We'll update this page when that changes.

Highlights

  • Sea-cliff top-roping on the beach
  • Easy 5.6–5.8 routes on the west face
  • Ocean views from the wall

Good for

  • First-timers
  • Kids & families

Access and permits

Access
Closed to practical access as of October 2026: the beach lot and Westward Beach Road past the gate are closed for erosion damage until further notice.
Permits
California State Parks requires a permit for commercial activity; the beach lot is operated by LA County Beaches & Harbors.

We only guide where we're authorized. That includes legal, practical access to the rock, so trips here are paused until access reopens.
